Free to a good home....

...7 or 8 degrees of summer heat.

Today has been another extremely warm day in Prague and we spent the day in and around Hradcany, the area where the Prague and other castles are situated.

To get there we needed to walk through the Jewish Quarter and was again taken with the buildings in the area - the Quarter is reputed to house the most valuable

real estate in Prague.

In one of the streets there were two vehicles that took our eye - looked like cut

down VWs and they stood around 1m high.

Also saw the family name advertising a scaffolding company - it's everywhere (ok

that's an exaggeration but you get the picture)!

The walk across the River Vltava is by way of the Charles Bridge which connects the Old Town with the Little Quarter, the construction commencing in 1357

Even at the time we were crossing it the crowds were significant and there were

numerous entertainers plying their trade. The bridge however is very commercialised and that detracts from the historic aspects of it.

Up the hill and into the grounds of the Prague Castle we followed the crowds. As the Castle area is on a hill it affords a great view over the city.

Within the confines of the Castle there is a magnificent Gothic Cathedral, St Vitus's Cathedral, the construction of which commenced in 1344 but was not completed until 1924!

The interior is jaw droppingly good with beautiful stained glass windows

At the top end of the area is the Strahov Monastery dating from 1140 and which

includes a renowned brewery of handcrafted beer (makes Sam's home brew kit look a bit amateur)!

After spending the better part of the day in and around the Castle area we made our way back down the hill, across the Charles Bridge and back into the Old Town area.

Prague has a reputation of being a city of great beauty and after our short time here we can confirm that to be so - put a visit on your bucket list.
