Walking Tour Hamburg

As luck would have it we woke to a cool Hamburg morning with rain threatening but we were committed to the tour.

Downtown we went and like Zurich last Sunday everything was closed other than the coffee bars and eating places.

We met the tour guide and other participants outside Starbucks in Rathausmarkt and after the normal formalities set off.

The tour meandered through the historic areas between Rathausmarkt and the River Elbe and took us past some delightful buildings and other touristy sights before concluding some 3.5 hours later at Hafen City.

The guide an American who has lived in Hamburg for 15 years was very informative and provide a very good background to what we were seeing.

The following photos tell the story of the day

St Petri church

A building put up by a shipping firm

Chilehaus

A plaque outside of the building where they made the gas for the extermination camps

Africahaus

St Nikolai memorial - all that remains of the church after WWII bombings

The final stop in the tour with Brent

While it was a cool day in fact apart from a light drizzle prior to the start of the tour it didn't rain
