Prague, this glorious city

En route from Dresden this morning saw a queue of cars in a road side area that suggested we should join them

The drivers were queuing to purchase something which a large sign indicated was the vignette to allow for driving on Czech motorways -so we too stopped and paid our 12.50 euros which allows for 10 days use of their motorways

Just over the border we pulled into an autostop to have a coffee but didn't have any Czech money so withdrew some from the on site money machine.

Withdrew 1000 CZK and was surprised when I was delivered a single 1000 CZK note and was further surprised when I realised I had just withdrawn the equivalent of 40 euro and the fee to do so was 3 euro!

Arrived in Prague around midday and pulled up outside the address of the apartment we had booked and was not impressed with the appearance of the

building externally as it looked very run down but thankful the apartment itself is

very clean and tidy.

We are about 150m from Stare Mesto (the old town) so after dropping the bags off we set off to have a look around.

Prague is a stunning city in this area - old graceful buildings lining cobblestoned streets, linking to a large square (Staromestree Namesti).

The square is surrounded by further delightful buildings and numerous cafes and street stalls selling amongst other things hunks of hot smoked ham straight off the

spit.

After walking around we saw a crowd in a junction with a side street looking up so we joined them - it was nearing 2 o'clock and they were looking at the Astronomical

clock waiting for the top of the hour when the twelve apostles appear in two windows at the top of the clock. Once the "show" is over the crowd clap and

quickly disperse before re-congregating before the next top of the hour.

As we walked away from the main square we came across a restaurant which was

aptly named!

We ambled back through the square to a restaurant serving traditional Czech fare for an enjoyable meal before walking for a bit around the town passing more stunning architecture and arriving back at the apartment with our necks sore from turning every which way

Tomorrow starts with another 3 hour walking tour so it is off to bed to refresh.

Good night all.
