Majestic

Last evening after a meal in the restaurant in the same block as the accommodation we took a stroll down to the harbour and was able to get a few photos before the

light faded completely.

This morning we spent the majority walking around the city walls, along with the day trippers from 3 new cruise liners that arrived in Dubrovnik.

The old town is simply stunning and I could write for hours but still not give life to this jewel in the Adriatic so I will let a few of the photos we took tell their story.

The walls run an uninterrupted course of approximately 1,940 metres encircling most of the old city, and reach a maximum height of about 25 metres. The bulk of the existing walls and fortifications were constructed during the 14th and 15th centuries, but were continually extended and strengthened up until the 17th century.

The walls have been considered to be amongst the great fortification systems of the Middle Ages, as they were never breached by a hostile army.

in 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

If you have created a bucket list then you need to put Dubrovnik very high on your list as you will not be disappointed.

To escape the crowds at the Old Town we retreated in the afternoon to Lapad Beach to join the crowds trying to cool off in the very oppressive heat being experienced in this part of Europe - with a usual summer average of 22C the past few days and the forecast for Dubrovnik over the next few is mid 30s, we certainly have been blessed with exceptional weather (so far) on this trip as we were 2 years ago.

The cruise liners are visible (barely) from the balcony of our accommodation and we watched one of them depart at 4pm this afternoon.

We retire tonight well satisfied with the time we have spent in Dubrovnik and the memories of time spent with police officers on our drive yesterday now distant.
